Baby Boomer America 1980-2000
1. Reagan is credited with the creation of the first "Teflon presidency" How does Reagan's ability to fend off problems and errors compare to those of Bill Clinton? The differences between Clinton as president and Reagan as president arose from their different styles of operation. The actions of Clinton and his team were the exact opposite of the actions of Reagan and his team, and Clinton and his team waited till the last minute before taking any decision. Even when the Clinton team had started on the path to winning the presidency, they had still not decided what they wanted to do, on the other hand after Reagan had won New Hampshire, he started putting together his foreign policy and domestic policy agendas and teams, and they started acting as early as February, which made a huge difference in the performance. (Chapter 5 - Enacting a National Security Agenda) The confusion in the foreign policy for Clinton also had the same origins, and the only thing that the Clinton team could say after they came to power was that they had no similarities of opinion with the previous Bush team. They had no vision or sense of purpose and that led them to using United Nations as the source for their foreign policy decisions. On the other ha
The impact of the computer and Internet is well known and are being felt everyday, by everybody. The problems of security have been discussed in some important conferences and some suggestions given. One of the major such conventions were held after the end of the 2000 fraud. It will be in the interests of the industry to seek protection against physical and cyber attacks as the threat to the information infrastructure will develop. (Miller, 1999) In certain respects, President Reagan was a powerful president and he stood up to the extreme right wing of his party with his choice of Sandra Day O'Connor. To a certain extent, it helped that she was a life long Republican, but she was still an independent thinker. Her actions were moderate and she left behind some legacies for Americans through her rulings. Some of these are that teachers cannot be fired for opposing discrimination against girls in American public schools, patients now have a right to get a second opinion when an HMO tries to deny them care, students from all backgrounds and ethnicities now are permitted access to American universities; the disabled have now been provided proper access to public courts and they will not have to crawl up a set of stairs to get to a courtroom as one plaintiff had to in Tennessee, and there have been efforts to provide cleaner water to citizens who now have a right to take a case against polluters to court.
