Public Relations and the Role It Plays

The role of Public Relations in an organization is very important for the reason that they were the one responsible for the organizations publicity and they were the one who maintains the relationship between the organization and its clients or customers. There are several functions of Public Relations in our organization and society.

The role of the Employee Relations during the past was taken cared of by the managers. Some of them were not formally trained on managing the employees. This function is primarily focused on the internal organization. Here are some of the issues that they encounter based on Peterson (2006):

They have little formal training about how to manage people

They have conflicting people management styles

They get little or no support from above in employee relations (they're still defending the last lay-off)

They get little support from the Human Resource people, except when they make a mistake

Today, in our fast changing technology, employees became demanding on what they are receiving and for this reason a specialized in Employee Relations are needed. We must admit that the employees are the one who know the ins and outs of the organization because they are working han


Community relations literature reflects general agreement that effective community relations programs make it easier to hire the better workers in a community, help to get more confidence in local plant management from communities and provide better understanding between the organization and local officials.

Only a person who has reasonably full access to all pertinent information about the company, be it favorable or not, should participate in the process of working one-by-one with the investment analysts who follow a company.

The function of investor relations is effective, timely communication of information, favorable and unfavorable, about the company or the client companies into the marketplace for shares and to other groups, so that better informed judgments of the worth of shares can be made on a regular basis.

Donors. Sharing the benefits and outcomes makes an impact on donors.

To get a positive result or feedback from the public, the publicity should also show positive information. Mantz (2006) have defined public relations as "...the process of establishing and cultivating relationships with audiences to create and maintain favorable public opinion and achieve our mission of successful youth development." Therefore, one of the vital functions of the Public Relations is to create a positive publicity of their organization and its services or products. Positive publicity also helps establish credibility, an essential ingredient in attracting youth members, volunteers, and potential donors (Mantz, 2006).
