Richard Wright, due to his surroundings, had to adapt and become independent early in his life. In the book, Black Boy, Richard shows how he progressively became independent in his writings. He never had a real relationship with anyone, so he never knew what it was like to rely on anyone else. Richard being an African-American in the south at that time was very hard. No one was willing to help him
