Michelangelo the great

A detailed Summary of Michelangelo the great

Many people have different views of Michelangelo's work, but all those views come from

first hand accounts of his work. Michelangelo didn't think of anything as a final work until

it had been studied and preserved in the mind. The theory of the Renaissance which says:

art is a revelation of beauty or truth hidden in nature, was adopted by

Michelangelo.(Wallace, p.107) Michelangelo looked for no master and kept an

independent free spirit about him which showed up in his work. Through this free

spirit we see his best work come to life. Few artists in the history of the world are like

Michelangelo in the way he chose to see the world and then put that vision in his work.

The Doni Madonna is Michelangelo's earliest work and the only one that is not a fresco on

a wall. This piece of work was ordered by Angelo Doni for his marriage in 1503 or

1504.(Bull, p.63) Generally these paintings of Floritine tradition were used

in the celebration of birth and marriage. Even in the back round of this work Michelangelo

shows off his skill by putting many figures back there. This painting was done on wood

ground like panel in a circular shape for the use as a tray.(Tansey, p.102)

The symbolism in this painting is both the birth of Ch

the audience. Michelangelo gets around this by not showing God but rather just the people

many other great works, like Moses. This statue was at meant to be one of about forty

life. His personal life is not important. It is not what Michelangelo eats on rainy day that

direct result of the prophets painted in the tomb. Moses infact was done immediately after

for Michelangelo. The "Athletes" of the ceiling are in the nude in pairs to the left and right

Renaissance figures they are still good to observe because there are so many meanings

from the grave. The Last Judgement shows a trend away from ordinary Renaissance work.
