This first god, or what they called Guru, was Nanak. Nanak was born in the year 1469 in a village known as Talwandi. Later it was changed in honor of him, it was called "Nanak's Place". His parents were common villagers, his father was a Hindu. When Nanak was 7, he would ask his teacher about the True Name of God. He studied Persian at the age of 9. Many people thought that he preferred a life of quiet meditation and religious devotion. They felt supernatural powers were with him in difficult situations. But his family felt he was useless and a disgrace to their family. Nanak became unhappy. Then one day after bathing, Nanak disappeared into the forest, he was taken in a vision to God's appearance. Nanak was offered a cup on nectar, which he accepted. God told him ," I am with thee, I have make thee happy, and also those who shall take thy name.
