Timothy Leary

Imagine entering another world. Imagine meeting with god and having a spiritually enlightening experience. One man did, and his name was Timothy Leary.

Timothy Leary, physiologist, philosopher, leader, and revolutionary, has dramatically changed life yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He has changed the view people hold on LSD and the mind. Also, Leary has pushed the boundaries by which some measured perception. Leary has changed the mind frames of important writers, and got many people mad. Most importantly, he affected people to act in some times negative, some times positive ways. But to understand what he did to and or for the world, you must first understand what the world did to him.

Timothy Leary was once married, but his wife and him constantly fought and heavily drunk. The fighting was usually centered around Leary cheating on her. On his birthday one year, he woke up and went downstairs looking for his wife. He found her in the garage in her car, dead. She killed herself after an argument, and apparently locked herself in the garage with her car running. After this he became radically different. This was the beginning of is mind expanding experiments and his change in mentality (LEARY.COM 1-30).

er this catastrophe, he applied at Harvard for a job and was excepted after an interview in which he said he wanted to change the patient-docter relationship. Later he began his testing of psilobin to students and prisoners. When the prisoners got out, they had a 90% success rate of them not coming back. Some of the experiments where aimed at finding a spiritual experience through chemicals. Some said it let them talk directly to god. People didn't like the idea that anyone could talk directly to god and soon afterwards the tests were stopped (LEARY.COM 1-30).

Now, his affect still overshadows us. His research prior to his LSD escapasades changed the patient-docter relationship. Today LSD is a commonplace drug due to the placement of it 40 years ago into mainstream culture. And aside from drugs, in his later years he lectured endlessly about computers and the internet promoting them and changing the way the world communicated not to mention his affect on prison physchology reports (Leary.com 1-30).

This began yet another phase in his life. With no strings to tie him down, they continued research in a mansion known as Milbrook. He married a Nena Von Schelebrugge. This was shortly disbanded. Soon later after going on vacation he was set up and arrested at the border of Mexico on a vacation with his family, but it was overturned (U.S. News and World Report 44). He started giving lectures, writings, interviews and such. He came up with the slogan, Turn on, Tune in, and Drop out. Of course the press took it the wrong way. (LEARY.COM 1-30) He always kept a smile on in public because it was good publicity.

Timothy Leary was both a visionary and a renovator.
