William Lyon Mackenzie 2

It is 1837, William Lyon Mackenzie, newspaperman, member of the Legislative Assembly and first mayor of Toronto, has formed a rebellion against the Family Compact. Why did he do it? He wanted a new system of government in Upper Canada. Therefore, the Family Compact expelled him from the Legislative Assembly four times. How should Mackenzie be viewed? Mackenzie was a bold, heroic person who faught for a democratic government for the rights of the people.

Mackenzie was a bold person because of his brave ideas that he interpreted. He would put all of his ideas and editorials on his newspaper, The Colonial Advocate. One of his ideas was to try to stop the oligarchy of the Family Compact. He disliked the fact that Upper Canada was ruled by a small group of people who did not care about the general population's opinions and views. Another one of Mackenzie's ideas was his sugge


In Conclusion, Mackenzie, the bold, heroic and fighter for democracy, believed passionately for the rights of the people. The things he did, the ideas and actions was the right thing to do. He needed to be heard on his opinions and demands of change in government. He was considered a big hero in Upper Canada throughout the general population The way he rebelled against the Family Compact was important to people. Mackenzie played a very important role in shaping the future of democracy in Upper Canada.

Mackenzie's bold actions to the Family Compact made a big effect on Upper Canada. One of his actions was to write editorials in his newspaper criticizing the Family Compact about their government system. He said in his editorials that he was calling the Family Compact a nuisance. As a result, the Family Compact destroyed Mackenzie's printing press to stop him from criticizing them. However, Mackenz
