Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
In his sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God", Edwards claims that a Christian's lack of commitment to God will one day provoke God to cast sinners who have took our father's love for granted into the depth's of hell. Even though God may do this he still has a never-ending love for us, for he sent his only son Jesus to pay for our sins. For us Christians that means that we must stop abusing his trust or one day God might turn on us, and send us to the one place he has protected us from for all eternity. Jonathan Edwards addresses the lack of commitment of people to God and the tremendous amount of power that God has over his people. The sermon also addresses that God is a forgiving God and he gives us a chance to repent our sins, and become closer to God. We as animals, force ourselves into a world of destruction, and hunger because of our greed and unwillingness to accept God as the one and only God. This entire sermon was dedicated to the backsliders who took advantage of God's plan. The sermon serves as a warning sign to the people, that if no action is taken to better themselves, then they will feel God's wrath, and be cast upon the Gates of Hell. Edwards brings up the thought that God
When God created the Earth, he made man in the image of himself, perfect and willing to carry out his ways. He made us unlike him not being perfect so we would have something to work for, and not be his equal. In turn doing that, that is where sin was created. God created sin for us Christians so we would have something to work for in life, to strive to be perfect like our God. Edwards spoke that God had the ability to let go of those people whom he did not feel worthy of his divine power, and that they would be dropped to hell to be punished for forever. Edwards make many strong points in his sermon, for it was made to come across as a strong warning to God's children, that we people should re-evaluate our relationship with God. His sermon touches the basis that people should not take God's never-ending love for granted. Edwards's states that one day God will get fed up with the abuse to his compassion he has allowed. Stating that we still have a chance to be forgiven, we just cannot allow this chance to slide through our fingertips supports Edwards's ideas. He is afraid that we Christians will not realize the fact that, time will run out and we will be damned for all eternity in a Sinner's Paradise. Edwards continues on to tell us about the chances that God has given us people as a whole to repent our sins to him. Some Christians do and the others that become backsliders take advantage of the idea that God has given them the option to live with him in heaven or in the depths of hell. He writes about the availa
