As we anxiously wait for the next millennium to arrive, many questions are forming in our minds. Most of these questions are impossible to answer due to the fact that we do not possess the ability to predict the future. Experts have made many different speculations as to how they feel the transition into the twenty first century will progress. One question that has caused some debate is "What will America's role be in the year 2000." No one knows exactly what role we will play, but many have formed their own opinions. Today we live in the most powerful and influential nation in the history of the world. Many countries look to the United States for guidance. Based on this fact, I feel that America should act as a moral, economic, and political role model to the world.

Another aspect of our country that must be influential throughout the world is our government. Perhaps the main factor of our democratic government would be our military presence. Over the past few years the U.S. has become a military police force throughout the world. Our troops have been sent to various locations to aid in preventing and stopping crimes against humanity. We have to realize that is impossible for us to solve every country's problems, but we cannot shy away from major atrocities. This lesson was learned after trying to avoid entering World War II. Our reluctance to enter the war almost resulted in a world dominated by Adolph Hitler. Education could be a key tool in the prevention of problems such as this.
