captial punishment
Capital Punishment, better known as the Death Penalty, has been practiced since the beginning of time. The Bible says, "Whosoever sheds man's blood, by man his blood may be shed. (Genesis 9:6) So, why do we not rape a rapist, burn down an arsonist's house, blind the peeping toms, or mutilate those who have mutilated? Isn't this more in line with the eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth concept? The Bible states the basic, "let the punishment fit the crime," concept at the very beginning, but as we proceed through the chapters, one of the main Ten Commandments is, "Thou Shall Not Kill." It seems that as a society that we have distanced ourselves from the eye for an eyeform of punishment, as somehow this would be cruel and unusual, and would really make us the same as those who committed the crime. Yet, some of us condone murder, feel that it is not cruel and unusual to plan and carry out a premeditated murder of someone for crimes committed. Currently there are 38 states that have the death penalty.(Demographics of the Death Penalty, 1996) 16 - have death by lethal injection 4 - electrocution or lethal injection 3 - gas chamber or lethal injection
The following are descriptions of the way a person is executed: "Death by lethal injection is the continuous intravenous injection of a lethal quantity of three different drugs. The prisoner is secured on a hospital type gurney with wrist and ankle restraints. A stethoscope and heart monitor are attached, and two saline intravenous lines are started in each arm. The inmate is then covered with a sheet, for whatever reasons. Sodium Thiopental is then injected into the intravenous lines, after the saline solution is turned Execution using the electric chair, has the prisoner strapped to a specially built chair. Their body and head must be shaved, so that there is better contact with the moistened copper electrodes that the executioner attaches. The first jolt of electricity is the largest one, and can range up to 3,000 volts. This is followed by several more in a lower voltage. The amount of voltage is usually determined by the person's weight, but varies from state to state. Usually three or more executioners push buttons, but only one is 3. January 24, 1992 in Arkansas, Rickey Ray Rector was to be I do not understand how a rational human being would even want to witness the death of someone either. I can understand the hate of someone who has lost someone to one of these people who are to be executed, but in the end are those who condemn another person to death, the ones who administer the means of death any better then the ones who committed the crime? Are those who actually go to see the execution not as sick as those being put to death? The firing squad has no exact procedure to follow. The prisoner is usually blindfolded, and stands in front of 5 people with rifles. These 5 executioners take aim at the prisoner's trunk, and all fire at the same time. Some of the shooters fire blanks, so that no one knows who actually kills the prisoner." (http://deathrowbook.com/)
