Confederation vs. Federal Model

Society often shifts ideals due to a catalytic event or events that forces a change. To shift the way a government works obviously has to show many flaws. What happened at the onset of America was too many flaws in the confederation system. So out of necessity, the framers shifted from a confederation to a federal model to lessen the confusion of both the central government and the people.

A confederation is where a government takes stock in the belief that states possess most of the power governing a nation. A document written under the confederation was the Articles of Confederation. With an altruistic intent, the framers had both good points and bad. The good points of this document is it provided a utilitarian state, the greatest good for the greatest number. In conclusion, the founding fathers of America deemed it incumbent to shift from a confederation to a federal model due to unforeseen problems that arose. With the Articles of Confederation being written out of necessity to gain some quick order for the infant country, the Constitution gave relief to an otherwise dying nation. This change was vital to the preservation of America.
