Death penalty is good policy
Two sisters are home alone when a robber enters the house. The younger sister (8) is shot and killed, while the other one hides in horror and witnesses the shooting. Though she manages to escape and save herself, she can never fully recover form what she had seen with her own eyes almost twenty years ago. This story is not unique for my clients. The killer who shot the innocent eight year old girl not only killed her, but forever changed the lives of her sister and her parents. Why should he deserve to live, and get a second chance when he so violently deprived the child of any chance at all. He murdered her in cold blood, and in my opinion there is nothing that could even be an option for his punishment, but death. Due to my extensive background in the profession of victim advocacy I have realized that it is crucial for most victims to know that the criminal that caused them so much pain will lose his life for what he did. My clients want to know that the crime will not be left unpunished, and that there is a very large price to pay for taking the life of their loved one(s). They need the feeling of closure, the peace of mind, and the vengeance to be able to go on with their lives. Another critical reason that the death penalty plays a very positive role for my clients is the peace of mind that it provides for them.
