Firearm Legislation and its Effect on

Violence is caused by a myriad of things. No matter what

the cause, however, it is never a good thing. Many procedures

are used by government--and even non-government--officials to

help stop this hurtful violence. Extra safety precautions are

taken to prevent it such as security guards, metal detectors, and

community curfews, just to name a few. These all, however, lead

down to stopping one thing, and that is the possession and

creation of firearms. To stop the violence, the government feels

that they must halt possession of firearms, and to do this

legislation must be passed to form laws keeping the public from

The procedure to pass these laws is not an easy one by any

stretch of the imagination. Americans will argue for days,

months, and even years as to what they feel should be done about

the situation, and then once a decision is made, the bill must go

through the long and tiresome process that it takes in this

democracy to pass a law. In most cases, a law is created in

response to some tragedy that has occurred and only is effective

in preventing future tragedies instead of fixing what has
