Gun Control 8
As an American reporter was covering one of the many school shootings, he remarked wearily: "This is all deja vu, I saw this stuff last month."What he meant was that school shootings are becoming all too familiar. Incidents in Oregon, Colorado, Georgia and Arkansas, to name but a few, have killed many innocent teenagers, and I believe that these incidents may not have occurred if the gun laws in the United States had been much stricter. In my opinion, the gun controls in places such as the US, and other countries that have little or no gun laws, should be a lot stricter, and even lead to a complete ban of all handguns. At the least, in the United States, background checks and gun licensing should be compulsory. Closer to home, in March 1996, a man walked into a school in Dunblane, Scotland, and gunned down 16 children, a teacher, and wounded 12 more. There was such an outrage over the gun laws in the UK that it forced John Major, the Prime Minister at the time, to ban handguns larger than .22 caliber, which was approximately 80 percent of handguns. This move lead to the complete ban of handguns the next year, by the current Prime Minister, Tony Blair. A month after the Dunblane shooting, an other horrific shootin
In the United States, there is a Bill of Rights, or The Second Amendment. It is a document that separates the US from other nations, as they are the only country to have such a document. Some people feel that to ban guns would be a violation of the Bill. This may be the case, but if stricter gun laws were brought in, then not only would there be less deaths, but safe owners could still own a gun with a background check and registration of the firearm. I believe that the United States gun control laws are virtually non-existent, and that because of this many dangerous people can obtain firearms. The disasters caused by this are still occurring, and it is of little comfort to the families of all the victims to know that there are still millions of guns in their country that can be used for murder. Gun laws must be stricter.
