During the course of the past few years the legalization of hemp, for industrial purposes, has been presented to the legislation on numerous occasions. As many know, these attempts to pass a law declaring industrial hemp legal has been turned away every single time. Regardless of hemp's many benefits such as its uses for paper, rope, and other resources, it is still declared to be a harmful product to incorporate into society. Past research that has been performed has led me to believe that hemp is not in fact dangerous, and can indeed be very beneficial to many industries throughout our nation.

Hemp is a distinct form of the plant species cannabis sativa and is somewhat similar to the leaf shape of marijuana. Although both plants are from this same species of plant, hemp contains virtually no THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana that causes psychoactive behavior. Forests are being destroyed three times faster than they can grow. In addition to that, a hemp crop produces nearly four times as much raw fiber as an equivalent sized tree plantation. Also, trees take approximately twenty years to mature while a hemp plant takes only four months.
