One of the main reasons why Iraq invaded Kuwait was to pay for its heavy post war debt burden amounting to $80 billion from the Iraq-Iran war. Initially Saddam Hussein was going to solve his problem by selling oil, but the end of the war eventually increased world oil productions and prices fell. The situation all got worse when Saddam Hussein demanded that both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia pay $13 billion or he would attack.
