NATO Lies and propaganda
The American people have been misled about the cause of the war in Kosovo. NATO has carefully fed the news media lie upon lie, attempting to rally support for U.S. intervention, and the media has faithfully broadcast those lies without any investigation into the veracity of the claims. Together they have painted the picture of innocent Albanians who were minding their own business when suddenly ruthless Serbians, led by the evil tyrant Slobodon Milosevic, began forcing them from their homes, killing the men and raping the women. This is a severely distorted image from which some important information has been deliberately been omitted.Yugoslavia is undergoing a civil war. The two major factions are the Albanians and the Serbians, who have been at each other's throats for hundreds of years. Recently, however, Yugoslavia became a democratic country, raising the opportunity to move the fighting into the political arena. In the 1997 Presidential election Slobodon Milosevic won by only 53% of the popular vote because the Albanians chose to boycott the election; had they chose to vote, Milosevic certainly would have lost. The Albanians preferred war, having formed the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army). For quite some time
the KLA has been trying to violently take control of various territories. The government has persistently fought back, even after NATO threatened bombing if the President would not relinquish authority of Kosovo to KLA forces.NATO sees fit to call Slobodan Milosevic a dictator, but that is a lie. He was elected fairly, and his actions are appropriate for those of a president. He had popular support for his stand against giving up Kosovo; if he had accepted NATO's ultimatum he would most likely have been removed from office. He does not murder or jail his critics; opposition forces have newspapers, radio and television stations, and Party organizations. The Yugoslav people are free to watch CNN and read western newspapers and magazines. In fact, before NATO's bombing, Yugoslavia was closer to a full democracy than Mexico. Bill Clinton has referred to Milosevic as today's Adolf Hitler, claiming that he must be nipped in the bud. This is a ludicrous statement considering that Germany was the World's second largest industrial power and Yugoslavia is one of the poorest countries in Europe. Furthermore, in the 1930's Germany was rapidly swallowing it's surrounding territories, and Yugoslavia has been shrinking. As for Milosevic, there is no cult of his personality, or any "Milosevic youth." He is certainly not the dictator that NATO would like us to believe he is. One of NATO's most important lies was that Serbian police massacred Albanian civilians. In mid 1999 there was a shootout between the KLA and Serbian police at Racak, Kosovo. The battle was filmed by a French journalist, and witnessed by OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe), an independent organization present to observe the situation. The next day the KLA claimed to have found the bodies of 23 civilian Albanians in a ditch, each shot in the head several times. The KLA claimed that Serb police entered the village, separated the men from the women, took them to the ditch, and shot them. The U.S. media heavily pu
