The Tempest - Perfect Utopia
If I were to be crowned ruler of my "perfect utopia", things would be very civilized and everyone would gave say in their own decisions. But according to The Tempest, Shakespeare creates a barren and prohibitive island in order to rule his man kind because he believes the nature of man is evil. Prospero, the ruler of the island, controls this utopia by placing a strict barrier around the island to maintain control. Whereas if I ruled my utopia everyone would voice there opinion therefore creating the island to become a democracy. On Prospero's island, there are very few people existing. To have a successful utopia, I believe that the island should be densely populated. There are many responsibilities on the island, so if there were to be a greater population, the jobs on the island would be distributed and the work would run smoothly. On my utopia there would be no such thing as a slave or servant. Everyone would be created and treated equally. To begin, if Prospero's wishes for Miranda to be a well-rounded young lady, he needs to not isolate her from the rest of the world. To have a successful uptopia, a dense population is the key. If there is one ruler and on way of doing things, the island wouldn't consist of creativity or fascination. A person's personality expands because of their surroundings. Miranda is on the island with a few old men, no other women to relate to, but yet she knows no other way of life. If she had frown up in a different atmosphere, even consisting of just on best friend, she would be a completely different person. So if Prospero allowed others to reside on the island, the ruling would change drastically. On my utopia, it would be densely populated. It would allow for the government to expand, and new ideas to sprout. The population would contain a wide diversity of people, so no one would have time for criticism. Although Prospero and I have few contrasting opinions as to ruling the island, we have one main issue alike, equality. Considering Prospero is reining the island as an isolated paradise, with few people, he seems to be raising Miranda under good standards. My island would consist of total equality, a dense population, and no restriction barriers.
