China is a major international trading force throughout the world. The images of the closed Chinese's market that many people still associate China with is no more. Lately, China has been attempting to enter themselves into the world market. China trade relations with the United States is one of the fasted developing trade markets. Although sometimes controversial, China and United States trade relation continue to grow.

The main controversy with the United States and China's international trade practices has nothing to do with trade itself. It has to do with the United States government continuing to extended the status of "Most Favored Nation Trading Privileges" to China, despite their continuing human rights violations. This has little to no effect of the actual trade relations between the two countries. It mainly has


One of the major problems with the trade relations between the United States and China is that there is a huge trade deficit between the two countries. As of June 1997 the trade gap was $4.7 billion between the countries. This number surpassed the trade deficit between the United States and Japan for the first time in history. Economists predict that the U.S. deficit with Japan will continue to fall, but the deficit with China will grow. The Commerce Secretary Mickey Kantor said, "And it is a result of unfair practice on the part of China - not only the piracy of U.S. products but also keeping U.S. products out of the Chinese market."
