UnMasking the Klan Anti-Masking Laws against the Ku Klux Klan

Do the members of the Ku Klux Klan have the right to march down the street while protecting their identities with masks and gowns or do the members of the public have the right to know who's behind the masks? Since the early 1900's, Klan members have worn special ceremonial robes to protect their identities while they venture out. Today's society feels that "anti-masking" laws should be passed so the members of the Ku Klux Klan can be exposed.

It is noted that 18 states have "anti-masking" laws that make it a crime to wear a mask in public. These laws were passed in reaction to all the violence put forth by the Klan. Many questions have been asked about these laws, "Are these laws aimed for the exposure of the Klan members to the public or are they denying the members of the Ku Klux Klan members First Amendment rights?"

Are anti-masking laws constitutional or a violation of the Klan's First Amendment right? I feel that "anti-masking" laws are very constitutional. With these laws, society knows who the culprit is who has been the innovator of "violence, intimidation and harassment," and police can put a stop to it. I find that out of the 3 perspectives of free speech, the 3rd prospective (argument for strict interpretation of the first amendment/ few forms of expression if it causing a "clear and present danger," would help each state lower the violence/harassment/intimidation from the Ku Klux Klan members. I feel that mask wearing only try's to help a person cover up their identity when they physically and mentally know that they are doing something wrong. The Ku Klux Klan should not be aloud to wear masks due to their past history of violence.
