Why Bill Clinton should be impeached

Why Bill Clinton Should Be Impeached

Ever since January 21, 1998 when the scandal of the affair between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky broke press, the entire world has focused its attention on the investigation of independent counsel Kenneth Starr (Starr 4). More recently, there has been serious talk about the possibility of impeachment. This has caused worldwide debate over whether or not Clinton's actions are worthy of such a punishment. The formal grounds for impeachment fall under obstruction of justice during the Jones vs. Clinton sexual harassment lawsuit by lying under oath and concealing evidence of his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. Also, Starr has offered a sufficient amount of evidence suggesting that the President's actions with respect to Lewinsky constitute an abuse of authority inconsistent with the President's constitutional duty to execute the laws (Starr 295). All of the reasons Bill Clinton should be impeached simply point to one undeniable fact. This scandal has affected Clinton's ability to fulfill his primary duty: leading our country. Though the consequences of his actions include a severe breach of trust, worldwide humiliation, and possible legal penalty, these are simply not enough. Bill Clinton does not deserve to withhold the position of being the most important man on earth (Lieberman 4). He has proved to be dishonest, immoral, and even criminal. What does it say about America today to be a country led by a criminal? This is something that we cannot tolerate. Bill Clinton should be impeached. This is the just and most efficient way of dealing with a problem that very well may plague our nation for a long time. "And let us be guided by the conscience of the Constitution, which calls on us to place the common good above any partisan or personal interest" (Lieberman 6). This quote by Senator Lieberman suggests the right and just way to go about this matter. No matter what happens or who is right, we should always hold true to the Constitution we have set forth for our country.

l, was not illegal. However, it is illegal to lie under oath of the grand jury. Bill Clinton's actions definitely constitute reason for impeachment. It is important that Clinton is impeached because he has proven himself to be dishonest, he created a bad image for our nation, and most importantly, he broke the law. As a consequence of his actions, Bill Clinton is no longer suitable to lead our country, especially when he is in the spotlight for the whole world to see.
