Why I am Proud I'm an American with a free press

A detailed Summary of Why I am Proud I'm an American with a free press

Freedom of the press is a right that all Americans have. In a world where a country's feuding political parties and their conflicting views battle between themselves, an outlet to express your view and opinion without the fear of persecution is a grand thing to call your own. The majority of the other countries in this world, even now in the 21st Century, can not boast to claim to a right that many Americans believe to be inalienable.

Free press provides the American society with a tool to express a variety of emotions. Political unrest, anger, and expression of ideas all can be found in the venue of the media. While in many other countries, you wouldn't see the statements of new ideas, opinions and the events of the government, in America, we can use the right of free press to present all these things and more to the public. The ability to have free press for everyone in society without any prejudice provides an ability to see events from a different perspective than you normally would.

Most people in America take the ability to have free press for granted, because they have grown up surrounded by a media that exposes them to different opinions and ideas. The ability to speak out against what you believed to be wrong is a law given right in our country. In places such as Korea and China, it is very difficult to be able to express your desire for change in the society around you. The government controls the press and media. By controlling these aspects of public outreach and information, the government is condemning those millions of people to a closet in which only chosen information is filtered to them. The government can expose them to whatever information they see fit. Thereby attempting control or influencing their thoughts and beliefs as a whole. With free press, we can be exposed to a wide spectrum of news without hesitation. This is what free press is about and why I am proud to have it.
