In the beginning of this century and throughout all of history women all around the world have always been abused and mistreated, they weren't given any rights that all humans deserve. They had no right to vote, were told what to do, which has usually meant that they had to cook, clean, and please men. For that they were considered weak and practically had the status of slaves, since they could be bought, sold, or traded by their own parents or brothers.

China was no exception. Women have never been treated well there. They were given away to prosperous suitors, or in many cases if the family was poor, they would be given away to be someone's concubine, just so that there are no extra mouths to feed. As if all of that wasn't enough, they also had to

Even women from the wealthy households were deprived of education. And none of the women had an opportunity to travel.
