How have women been treated in the past? Many ancient cultures share the same views on female roles. In Africa women were well valued, much like they were valued in china. In the Aztec society women were valued mildly, as they were in Islamic areas which is still a little better than all slaves.
African women were subordinate to men but could still inherit property and own it. They were well valued for the work that they did in the home and valued for having children. Sometimes they worked in the fields farming and infrequently they could be merchants. The lineage, family tree, is based on the mother which makes this a matrilineal society.
