Y2K is shorthand for the potential of computer operating systems, software programs and microchips to malfunction on January 1, 2000. Without being repaired or replaced, many of these information technology components may misread the century change as 1900 instead of 2000. Y2K is a major issue for management because if the computers are unable to interpret the correct date it could mean major confusion. Computer systems manage many different day to day operations such as replenishing inventories, essential human services, vital statistic and bank accounts.
