Young Offenders Act

“Ours is a youth-oriented society, and it is the youth of society that is our asset and future.” [Theories of Delinquency]. As we read this quote, we must look at its deep message. It relays a significance that most people today don’t realize. Because young people are our prospect, we should try to encourage them to strive for success instead of suppressing them and denunciating them. For, as an evolved society, we can not simply dismiss any troubled juveniles as if they were worthless and replaceable. We all know that as individuals, no one should be denied the right to receive a fair chance at life.

The Young Offenders Act of Canada, which was inspired by the Juvenile Delinquents Act, is a principle by which young people who commit criminal offenses are helped in a special manner and treated with more tolerance that an adult would receive. Without this Young Offenders Act, juveniles would be tried in adult court and would not take in as much of a second chance, however, “sentencing for young people must fit the crime as it does for adults” [http://www.peelbarristers.com/~biss/pages/yoa.htm].
