The Hierarchy of the church can loosely described in a pyramid fashion. At the top is the Pope who is considered the closet man to God's will. At the bottom of the pyramid is the congregation. People who are lower on the pyramid are meant to be servants and obey those above. Conversely, the hierarchy is meant to serve the religious congregation that makes up the lowest level. The first part of the hierarchy is the ordained that all follow vows of chastity and obedience.
The Pope is the elected head of the church. His official title is Bishop of Rome. The bishop of Rome is then considered the Pope of the Catholic Church. The Pope is considered the spiritual leader of the church and has been recently deemed infallible in religious matters.
