In the following paper I will discuss a religious theme. After the making the decision of a theme, I decided that theism and atheism most interested me. I will be discussing the difference between the two and giving some general information about both theism and atheism. Both if these had many highs and low points that I would like to go into some detail.
I will discuss theism first. Theism comes from the word Theos, which is Greek for "god". One who is theist believes in one god, and is personal and worthy of worship. He or she also transcends the world, but takes an active interest in it. Theism also reveals purpose for human beings, and this is done with "miraculous events, sacred writings, and through particular people. God is also considered to be personal if he can be understood by analogies, which are drawn from human experience. This is also done if human
Atheism is the next term that I want to discuss. Atheism comes from the prefix a, which means "without", and then the also from the Greek word Theos meaning "deity". Atheism is the denial or the lack of a god or gods. The denial of the existence of god is known as strong or positive and the lack of the belief in god are known as negative or weak. Atheism is often contrasted with agnosticism. Negative atheism is often compatible with agnosticism. Atheism has a wide range of implications for the human condition. In absence of belief in god, "ethical gods must be determined by secular aims and concerns." With this belief, humans must take responsibility for their destiny, and when death comes upon the person, it marks the end of the persons existence. This is just some of the most interesting things that I found about atheism.
