What is God

According to the Catholic religion, what is the proper definition of who God is? What is the reason for us not being able to actually see him? Why is he not visible to the human eye? What proof is there that God really exists? These are all questions that come up from a number of catholic religion followers that speak of God. There is, actually, not an explanation of all the mysteries of God, which lead many followers to lose total faith in God. Then again, you are not supposed to put your God to the test, as many forget to realize.

Who is God? Is it a feeling, an emotion, or just a being that exists? In actuality, to the Catholics, God is everything. According to the book, The History of God, by Karen Armstrong, Arius said, "God was the only unbegotten, the only eternal, the only one without beginning, the only true, the only one who has immortality, the only wise, the only good, the only potentate"(p.109). This explains who God is according to the catholic religion. God is immortal, He is infinite, He is everything a human can and cannot be. "God is made up of the Trinity, which is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit"(American Bible Society, Good News Bible, New Testament, p.147). The Father being God, a

Humans also have questions about proof of whether God exists or not. People have wondered when there will be an assurance of God, the Almighty. "God is like a novelist who is literally incapable of autobiography or criticism and can only tell His own story through His own characters"(Miles, Jack, God a Biography, p.86). Basically, God cannot present Himself to people, and tell a story about Himself. He is infinite, He is everything. When something is infinite, it never ends. He tells His story through scriptures and prophets. For example, the Lord said to Judah and all of Israel, "Turn back from your wicked ways, and observe My Laws (the 10 Commandments), according to all teaching that I commanded your fathers and that I transmitted to you through My servants, the prophets"(Miles, Jack, God a Biography, p.191). So, through Moses, He was able to send the Ten Commandments to His followers. Some people use analogies as a way to try and make the question of God existing or not, a little more clear. For example, some people use mathematics. The analogy goes, "God exists because mathematics contains no contradictions; and the devil exists, because it cannot be proved that there are no contradictions"(Kung, Hans, Does God Exist?, p.32). There is good and evil in this world. Whatever is considered good, had to come from someone, somewhere. The same rule applies for evil. There are, however, atheists in the world, who disagree with the beliefs in God with their own opinions. One man, by the name of Fewerbach said, "What man wishes to be, he makes his own God"(Kung, Hans, Does God exist?, p.209). In other words, man at his finest he wants to be, is their God. There were two other atheists who bring up points of their own, by opinion, Jean Paul Sartre and A.J. Ayer, also a logical positivist. Sartre said, "Even if God existed, it is still necessary to reject Him, since the idea of God negates our freedom"(Armstrong, Karen, The History of God, p.378). A.J. Ayer said, "Theism is so confused and the sentences in which 'God' appears so incoherent and so incapable of verifiability and falsifiablility that to speak of belief or unbelief , faith or unfaith, is logically impossible"(Armstrong, Karen, A
