Acne is a very common skin disease. It can come in the form of blackheads, whiteheads, red spots and even boils (nodules or cysts). Although anyone can have acne, the majority of the cases are found in teenagers. Most of the Acne problems are found on the face, chest, upper back, and shoulders. These regions of the body are most common because they have large quantities of pilosebaceous follicles, which are huge oil-producing structures (Facts 1).

The cause for Acne has not yet been proven. However; many theories have been developed. The most common theory is that hormones rise to incredible levels before and after puberty. This causes the skin to be more vulnerable to oils, which may cause Acne. Other theories purposed had to deal with emotional stress levels, fatigue, and cosmetics. All of these are believed to aggravate Acne (Facts 1).
