Many issues and arguments arose before the beginning of the Civil War in 1961. The biggest issue of the war was slavery. The feeling of this issue was big enough to sectionalize the United States into two groups called the North and the South. What exactly caused the state to separate were the three issues; The Dred Scot Decision, Compromise of 1850 and John Brown’s Raid on Harper’s Ferry. Each issue pushed the country to turn against each other and lead it into war. These three incidents can be seen as a sign to the beginning of war. In 1834 a black man with the name Dred Scott (born in Virginia and raised in Missouri) was taken to the free states of Illinois and Wisconsin by his master. After taking Scott to the free states his master returned him back into the slave state of Missouri. Scott sued for his freedom stating since he had lived in a free state and in free territory then he should be a free man. His trial was named Scott vs. Sanford and raised many questions in the legal system. If Scott wasn’t a citizen of the United States he may be able to sue in higher court. Also if Scott was a resident in free territory it could make him a free man although he was returned to a slave state. On March
