Radium, one of the most radioactive elements on the periodic table, discovered by the famous Marie Curie, and used for treating cancer are some of the reasons why radium is a very well known element. I believe that it is one of the most interesting elements, although it is the only one I’ve studied. Radium was discovered by Marie Curie, Pierre Curie, and their assistant. They discovered it by crystallizing an ore called Pitchblende, which is an Uranium ore. When they discovered it in 1898 they gave it the name Radium which comes from the Latin word for ray, radi. Radium is a silvery white metal, although not commonly found as a metal. It belongs to the Alkaline Earth Metal group and has similar characteristics as Beryllium(Be #4), Magnesium(Mg #12), Calcium(Ca #20), Strontium(Sr
