space travel history

Since the beginning of time people have thought about going to the moon or going to other planets. In the old days traveling in space was just science fiction that was just found on TV shows or the movies, but now it is reality. Most of the space technology that was made had to evolve during time so it can get better, it had to learn from it's mistakes. Right now over 100 space probes have been sent into space and they keep sending more and more up in space because the old ones break so they have to send new ones to take their place.

In the beginning people thought that the earth was the center of everything and everything revolved around this planet this was around the 2nd century A.D.. It was in the 16th century that a man named Nicolaus Copernicus began a theory that the sun was the center and the planets revolved around it. People believed that the earth was the center for 14 centuries! In one year the thing they believed was found to be false.

The beginning of space technology began with rockets. One of the earliest rockets or the ancestors of modern rockets were made in China it was around 1232 A.D., most of the rockets were made for experimental and war purpose

s. The experimental rockets were made to see how high they would reach into the atmosphere, the other rockets were made into deadly weapons in war. As the years went by the experimental rockets were pushed to their limits and tried to reach higher heights, but most of them would blow up or become unsuccessful.

We have more to see in the future with pictures of Saturn by Cassini that is scheduled to be on June 2004. We also have the International Space Station that will be available for every country. Another thing that might be knew is Venture star which is suppose to be a space shuttle of the future.

Now we were started to learn more about space and the technology to get there. It was October 4th 1957 and it was the first time a rocket had carried a satellite into space and that satellite was called Sputnik. Sputnik was launched by the Russians and it orbited the earth and took data about space and fell back down to earth. Many U.S. citizens thought that this was a plan by the Russians so they could be spying on us and planning for a war, but it was not true. Sputnik 2 was launched November 3rd 1957 and it carried a dog named laika on it, it was the first to send biomedical information, it did reenter the earth but destroyed itself after 162 days aloft.

Now the race to the moon was heating up both country's had the technology and the money to send into a team of men to the moon it was just a matter of when, we had already sent astronauts to orbit the moon. It was on July 20th,1969 that this question was answered, it was one of the greatest day in history, it was when the Apollo 11 lunar module first landed on the moon. The Apollo crew was made up of 3 astronauts Edwin E. Aldrin Jr, Neil A. Armstrong and Michael Collins but only two would be in the lunar module Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Neil Armstrong. Neil Armstrong first set foot on the moon at 10:56 p.m. eastern time. His first words were "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." in that time nobody had ever set foot on the moon so they didn't know how much the gravity was or how thick the dirt was so it was a new experience for everyb
