tourette's syndrome

Tourette's syndrome is a neurological disorder, which involves involuntary body movements or Tics. There are two types of Tics, physical and vocal. This paper will cover many aspects of Tourette's syndrome. Throughout this paper I will refer Tourette's Syndrome as Tourette's Syndrome. Many different aspects of the syndrome will be covered in this paper, including the history of the disease, who discovered it, the genetics involved with the disorder, the diagnosis of the disease, the effect of the disease on the family. Also the educational outlook, lifestyle, and medical treatment available to the Tourette's Syndrome patient.

Georgs Gils de la Tourette's a French doctor and biologist discovered Tourette's Syndrome in 1885. He was observing patients with unexplained repetitive movements and could not find any preexisting condition that would cause these symptoms. After extensive research he concluded that this disorder had never been documented before, so he named it Tourette's Syndrome, after himself. This explanation of how the disorder was discovered and named is the most widely accepted. However, there is no factual documentation of how Tourette's actually discovered the disease Tourette's as


Research grants have been given out since 1984 by the TSA they have funded approximately one hundred eighty scientists with over 4,000,000 dollars. This money has been used to pay for the research, which helped find the medicines and treatments that are available today for those with Tourette's Syndrome.

If you or a loved one has Tourette's Syndrome and wish to join the TSA (Tourette's Syndrome Association.) Here is some background information TSA is a non-profit voluntary health organization with 54 U.S. chapters. If you are in the TSA you receive special newsletters and information on upcoming treatments. There are grant programs that are only available for TSA members. There is also a crisis hotline and valuable literature for people with Tourette's Syndrome and their families, medical and allied professionals, educators and legislators. There is a yearly conference that over 1,000 TSA members attend. The latest information is available at the conference.

Tourette's Syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes involuntary muscle spasms. Those are uncontrollable, those spasms are called Tics. The most common type of tics are eye blinking, sniffing, throat clearing, foot taping, and hair tossing. Those are the simple tics. There are also more complex and severe tics. They are arm and leg flailing. Tourette's has no bias it attacks people of all ethnic and gender groups. Although Tourette's Syndrome is annoying and embarrassing to live with it can be managed with the proper treatment and medication. The patient with Tourette's Syndrome can lead a healthy and full life.

If you are an affected person there are many support groups because it has been proven that a child that has a disorder and go to a support program will go on and have a more successful life and be more socially stable. There are many different groups you can join our just write to because children need to belong to some thing. That is one of the most important things for any child, let alone some one with a disorder. They need to feel like they belong to something where they don't feel different or strange because every one else in the group or chat room has the same problems and goes through the same every day struggles and embarrassments.
