Ways we Classify
A detailed Summary of Ways we Classify
The concept of classification can be quite difficult to understand due to the many similarities that exist in what is being classified. There are tiny little details that make objects hard to distinguish from one another. Classification is a way of sorting out the details and finding ways to distinguish one object from another. Classifying things need to exist because that is how we are able to tell things apart. For instance, our society depends on automobiles to get around. There are numerous vehicles that have very little differences. In order for us to decide which vehicle to choose, we look at the many different options available. Cars are classified by the make, model, size, safety equipment, and dimensions, class and price range to name a few. People look at the different cars available based on many different categories. It is very important that we c

When a molten mass of lava beneath the surface cools at a slow rate, the crystals grow bigger than if they were exposed to the surface of the earth. As an earthquake disturbs the crust, the molten mass moves up to the surface. The crystals are then able to get caught up with fine-grained lava rock. This is called Porphyritic that is when crystals exceed 50% of the rock. When we look at an igneous rock classification chart, a rock is described by its texture. If the rock is fine-grained, then it has an aphanitic texture. Phaneritic is the opposite, course grained. After the rocks texture is figured out, then the color of the rock can furthur classify it. The mineral composition can be determined. If it is light-colored, and then it contains feldspar minerals, verses dark-colored minerals such as olivine make the rock dark. Mineral identity in the rocks determines what kind of environ
