Film today has changed a lot since the studio system dissipated. Actors can choose their own paths and are forced to decide what would be best for their career. Actors try not to play the "same role" for each character. For example, Edward Norton was a psycho killer in Primal Fear, a skinhead in American History X, and a mental case in Fight Club. His characters were all completely different and yet they were all believable as people. Edward Norton should not be considered an actor, but a potential star.
