Jonathan Ewards

Jonathan Edward's "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" was one of the most

revolutionary sermons of it's day. Mr. Edwards style of preaching was very effective in getting these "wicked people" to repent of their evil. Although Edwards' form of teaching was very pessimistic and discouraging, it got the message across to the people. Since it was settled, the United States has been slowly turning away from God and looking to themselves and to other religions for peace. The time has come that this country is chastised for it's sins and is turned back to God. Edwards started out his sermon by telling the people about how evil they are and how they are going straight to hell. He makes it sound as though there is no way out of this terrible mess that the people had gotten themselves into. After making sure that all present were sure of eternal damn


One would think that Edwards'' form of preaching would scare away more people than it drew to Christianity. On the contrary, it actually drew many people to the faith early. Unfortunately these people did not have support after they found Christ, so in turn, they slowly fell away from the faith. If the fire and brimstone method is to be taught, the people who are drawn to Christ must have adequate support to keep their faith.

Although this "Fire and Brimstone" form of preaching was very dark and scary, it did the job. The people of the time were falling away from God and turning to other things. Today, just like back then, the people of the world are falling away from God. It seems like today more and more tings are becoming tolerable to our society. There are a lot of preachers who do not preach with authority these days. It is great that
