The concept of credit was a brilliant idea. The ability to buy goods absent of currency could very well be one of the best ideas ever fathomed. The idea that obscene amounts of money could be made from the concept was even more ingenious, and thus began the credit warrior, a destructor awaiting another consumer's spiral into debt. A spiral catching millions of youth annually; a spiral consuming the financial freedom of a younger generation - a generation who hasn't yet been given the chance to experience life without such manipulatively derived financial obligations - a spiral that can be avoided.
Mary Jane strode down the hardwood-covered floor of her dimly lit apartment's foyer. Her Kenneth Cole leather shoes swiftly swept along her handmade, leopard skin runner. Her vibrantly green, mid-calf coat flew behind her and she pouted her lips in satisfaction to feel her boxy-framed Gucci sunglasses mounted upo
n her face. She tossed the mail she had just collected next to the crystal vase centered on the Venetian import table against the wall and freely smiled, as in proclamation that she was home.
A Visa logo flashes across the screen after a quick blackout of Mary Jane's apartment. What can we now conclude about Mary Jane? She is all of these women. She is someone prosperous. Why isn't she a janitor or a part of Ramada's maid-staff? She can be. She can be anyone and anything. Visa implies that whoever she is, she is a woman with credit. Credit that has gotten her all of the things she surrounds herself with. Because of Visa, she can live a life of comfort and updates. "You will have lots of material possessions and therefore be happier with Visa". "Everyone should be happy so everyone should have a Visa".
Generations of the future have been deceived into believing that happiness can be bought. A "demand for immediacy"
