Conditioning Sofball Players
There is nothing more important, in my opinion, than what a coach's philosophy is for the conditioning and coaching of his players. Both areas predominately emphasis the mental and the physical, and can even touch upon the spiritual, which is where I believe true talent and the ability to perform originates.A coach that is able to touch the spiritual though the mental and physical and by the words that are used, words which inspire and motivate, is most assuredly and in the truest sense of the word a teacher and coach. This philosophy is how I approach the following thoughts in the conditioning and coaching of my high school players. Although be aware, I may not place everything that I believe, and would do and say perfectly on this paper, there is a lot more depth to me. J First off, my goal in conditioning high school athletes is to do so safely, quickly, and with the maximum amount of development in speed, strength, and power; without over-training and keeping with the philosophy of specificity in training, as well as making it enjoyable. 1. I would encourage participation in another sport or physical activity, to keep the reflexes sharp.
Ultimately, we are each in charge of our own destines. To be the best in softball and in life, we must place our fullest attention to the task at hand. If we want to be good softball players we must condition our bodies to be prepared and able to perform the task effectively to the highest degree. We must also condition our minds individually and collectively as a team. 2. I will incorporate fun practice drills that challenge them physically, pushing them to their limits but being fun at the same time. 3. As a coach and or teacher, I will ensure that each of my players strive individually and collectively to develop balance, mentally, physically and spiritually, whether on or off the field. As a coach, I must also be prepared to show the path that my players can follow, which will lead them to be the best players that they can be (which almost has no limit); as well as being the best they can be in life. The way is that I must care.
