Internet and Human Right

The Internet is a unique communication medium. On the Internet, people are not only consumers of contents but also creators of contents. Like no other medium before, it allows individuals to express their ideas and opinions directly to a world audience. So, while the Internet and the other online service have welcomed for providing the intellectual tools and for the exchange of ideas and information throughout the world, protecting children from the Internet's evil influences, such as pornography, has become a great concern in many parts of the world. In 1995, the Communications Decency Act (CDA) had been introduced in the U.S. Congress, and by passage of the CDA on February 9, 1996, as a part of the Telecommunications Reform Bill, it was modified to be applied to restrict on the cyberspace.

Protecting minors from the Internet pornography or violence is necessary and we are all responsible for not providing any materials or information that is inappropriate, indecent or harmful for minors. However, I believe that government censorship is not the only way to protect children. There are so many systems available for the purpose to protect kids. In addition, the restriction of the Internet damages the atmos


(2) Filtering Software: Parents can buy and install it to home computers in order to bloc contents and access or set limits on how long and when kids can surf the Internet. The GetNetWise provide the searching service for the appropriate Internet safety products among over hundreds tools, depending on the guardian's demands such as limit online time, filters sex, hate, violence and illegal. Some popular software programs are Cyber Patrol, Net Nanny, SurfWatch, and SafeSurf. These programs allow parents to bloc sites based on categories or certain words and phrases they don't want their children to view online.
