Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in a small Austrian village. His father was Alois Schicklgruber and his mother was Klara Hitler. Three of Adolf's siblings died when they were children, one of them died right after birth. The family moved around quite often, when Adolf was three they moved from the Austrian village to Passau, where Adolf's brother was born. Then the family moved to a farm in Hafeld, where his sister was born. Adolf's grade school years came to an end and he wanted to attend a classical secondary school to fulfill his dreams of becoming an artist, but his father wanted him to follow in his footsteps by becoming a civil servant. So Adolf went to the technical secondary school. At the age of thirteen Adolf's father died suddenly of a lung hemorrhage on January 3, 1903 leaving Adolf the head of the household. Another tragedy to strike Adolf was the death of his mother on December 21, 1907; she died of breast cancer. Historians have concluded that Adolf suffered psychological distress because of an unhappy childhood and a bad relationship with his father. After his mothers death Adolf moved to Vienna. Hitler spent all night wondering how he was going to fix this and in the morning of November 9 three thousand Nazis marched toward the center of Munich. They encountered a police blockade. As they stood face to face with about one hundred armed police officers, Hitler yelled out surrender. The police did not surrender. Shots rang out. Both sides fired. Sixteen Nazis and three policemen were killed. Adolf had a dislocated shoulder but managed to get away, the rest of the Nazis scattered or got arrested. Hitler spent two days hiding until the police found him and was arrested. With the collapse of the Nazi revolution, it now appeared to almost all observers that Hitler's political career and the Nazi movement itself had come to a crashing end. But the truth of the matter is that Hitler used his trial for publicity. Hitler became a nationally and internationally known figure. A series of financial events that unfolded in the years 1921 through 1923 that would move the Nazis to new heights. The first of these is the bill that France and England made with Germany demanding money for the damages caused in the war which Germany started. This bill cost Germany 33 billion dollars and had the immediate effect of inflation in Germany. The Germany currency, the mark, slipped drastically in value. The German government asked for a postponement of the payments but France refused. By November of 1923 it took 4 billion marks to obtain a dollar. Germans were paid with worthless money and groceries cost billions, hunger riots broke out.
