The Once and Future King
A detailed Summary of The Once and Future King
At the beginning of The Once And Future King, the reader is introduced to two young boys, Kay and The Wart(a.k.a. Art), who both live in Sir Ector's castle. Kay is Sir Ector's son while Art is just his foster son. They are being taught by a tutor, but she becomes mentally unstable and has to be replaced. Sir Ector and his good friend Sir Grummore Grummursum want to search for a tutor, but it is July and residents are too busy laying out hay to dry.
One day, Art and Kay take Cully, a hawk, from the Mews(the room where the hawks are kept) and try to make it hunt. Cully isn't in the mood and decides to perch on a nearby tree instead. Kay leaves. Wart stays, trying to coax the hawk down; he knows how long Hob(Sir Ector's austringer) trained Cully. Wart is frightened because an arrow comes from nowhere and unexpectedly hits the tree, so he becomes afraid and runs deeper into the forest to hide. He runs into King Pellinore, a knight searching for the Questing Beast, a one-of-a-kind monster. Just as King Pellinore is about to show Wart the way home, he sees the Questing Beast and dashes off. Wart falls asleep. When he wakes, he sees an old man with a long beard getting water from a well. The man, whose name is Merlyn, alr

Merlyn gives Wart many lessons. He transforms Wart into a fish where he learns to swim. Merlyn cures the leader of a school of fish. Wart is next turned into a bird and goes in the Mews. As a new group member, Wart must stay within reach of Cully without being torn apart. Kay is envious because he doesn't get adventures. Merlyn tells a story about a man who is nice to a cruel man and is rewarded while the cruel man gets what he deserved, but he gives in and says he'll allow Kay to join them on an adventure. Kay and Wart walk to Robin Wood's area, meeting Little John on the way. Maid Marian and Robin Wood explain that Morgan le Fay captured Dog Boy and Friar Tuck. They need innocent virgins to go inside. Kay and Wart are instructed not to eat anything. Morgan's castle is entirely made of food. Instead of making the boys tempted, it makes them nauseous. Kay flashes the silver knife Merlyn gave him at Morgan le Fay and they rescue Dog Boy and Friar Tuck. Later, Wart is transformed into an ant. Wart gets signals and performs hard labor. Ants from a different colony are around and are about to battle the colony Art is in, so Art changes back into a human.
eady knows who Wart is. He leads Wart into his cottage, which is full of strange items and a talking owl named Archimedes. The two of them go back to Sir Ector's castle, catching Cully on the way, and Merlyn persuades Sir Ector into letting him tutor Wart. Kay is snobby and critiques Wart. Merlyn scolds him but later regrets it, so he gives Kay a silver knife which is greatly appreciated.
William Twyti, a famous hunter, is near Sir Ector's castle in the winter. On Christmas Eve, the villagers and William gather at the hall for a large feast. A few days later, William and another group go boar-hunting. The Questing Beast is found ill and King Pellinore blames himself. He wants to nurse it back to health.
Late one night, Art is working on new laws. He wants to make it so wars rarely occur. Tom, a paige, comes and they realize the story of King Arthur must be remembered, especially "Might is not used for Ri
