roll of thunder hear my cry

Racism Thank God Its Not Like This Anymore

Similar to the piece Roll of Thunder, Here My Cry, Baseball has dealt with racism and segregation. Before Jackie Robinson broke into the White League, only white people could play in the White League and the blacks played in the Negro League. When Jackie Robinson joined the white leagues he became an outcast. Whenever he hit the ball no one said "good job" or anything but when other teammates did they got hand shacks good jobs but not Jackie. He got threats and slanderous remarks. But he kept his cool and used his head. But sometimes it got him into trouble for his actions. Jackie Robinson changed, grew, learned, realizes and reacted do to racism and built up anger. Like Cassie, Stacy, Little Man and the rest of the characters in Roll of Thunder, Here My Cry.

Many characters learned grew and reacted to things in Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry like Cassie, Little Man and Stacy. Cassie learns about racism from the Strawberry incident when Cassie, Stacy and the rest waited on line forever waiting to be served. But they never got served because white people had to go first because they were white and Cassie, Stacy and the rest were black and they didn't get privileges. Cassie didn't know

Those are the characterizations, themes, and mood of Roll of Thunder, Here My Cry. The Characters of Roll of Thunder, Here My Cry had to deal with a lot of adversity such young kids must not even teenagers and they had to be faced with racism. A lot of African Americans have dealt with racism around this time and oddly enough people kept their composure when needed. Between Athletes and or what ever they have had it. Not only African Americans, but Native Americans, and Hispanic people too.

that so she went up to the salesman and asked him, "why did this white kid go in front of me when I got here first?" The guy got mad and started to yell at Cassie. Stacy calmed her down as the man sent them out and explained to her not to do that. We aren't white so we don't get the privileges that whites get. Cassie got so mad that she began to run and her and Lilian Jean ran into each other. Lilian Jean got upset about it and had Cassie apologize and Cassie did it and then Lilian Jean's father Mr. Simms came and had Cassie apologize and have her call her Miss Lilian Jean and to walk in the street. This didn't sit well with Cassie. She didn't want to do it but her Grandma' made her do it, so she said it. "SORRY MIISSSSSS LILIAN JEAN." So Cassie reacts she uses her head and hangs out with Lilian Jean. As she hangs out with Lilian Jean she learns stuff about her and one day she tricks her into the woods and beats her up and then blackmails her so she doesn't tell anyone about it. The man in the store should know it doesn't matter what color your skin is as long as you are paying but silver and green. Lilian Jean is just a spoiled little brat that thinks she is all and mighty but she not and her father is just no class. Way to go Cassie that's using your head. LOL (Laugh Out Loud just in case you didn't know) You can hear it now newspaper boy "Lilian Jean 13 years old gets beat up by 9 year old in woods." But it's good that Cassie learned about racism then, then later. Little Man realizes and reacts that the supposable new books that Miss Crocker gave the class had ripped pages and in poor condition and when you opened the book you could read how old the had been and who had it. The white schools had these books for 10 years and on the 11th year it said nigga. That made Little Man real mad and he
