What role do children play in, George Orwells 1984, Big Brother community? What role do they play in our community? Whatever role given, it is an important role. In our world, children are free to grow as they please. But in Big Brothers world, there's an incredibly different story behind it. The children have a choice to live in hatred and idiocy, or not live at all.
Imagine walking down the street. You see a rather adorable child looking at you in an eerie way. It's almost as though she could read your mind. You would have never guessed that, she was. Before you know it you are thrown into a jail cell wondering what happened along that street. What had made you convicted? You have just been turned in for a thought crime. That's how it is in a Big Brother society.
When you live in a world of Big Brother, children are congratulated for deceiving people. The best example woul
d be Mr. Parson's children. In the beginning of the story, when Winston was working on Ms. Parsons plumbing, his younger son pointed at Winston and accused him of committing a thought crime. Later in the story Mr. Parsons had been turned in for a thought crime by his own daughter. Who would have guessed that society had such an affect on the children.
Big Brother created a way of brainwashing the society without their even knowing it. The society's job was to erase everything from the past that was wrong so that you would have no recollection of their mistake. The reason for this was because Big Brother knew that if his society failed to look like it was doing its job, the people would take over.
