It is called the "mercy killing" prescription and it is called that for a reason. They are pills that you take when you are going to die soon and you do not want to go through the pain any more. It has only been legalized in one state (Oregon), but in that state it has worked great for those people who have been suffering and could not bare the pain anymore. I think that every person should have the choice whether to live or to die, that is your right as a human being. Why should a doctor decide your fate when it is your body and your choice whether if you want to end it or not. It is your choice to end your life when you want too, it is safe to use because there are a lot of guide lines that you have to follow to get the pills and there is already one state that has already legalized it and it will not be long until all of the other states legalize it.
Imagine living your whole life the way you want to live it, then you get cancer and you have to go through Kimo therapy and all sorts of difficult procedures. Why make people suffer? There is no reason why a person should suffer and have no control over there own life. In Nov. 1997 the state of Oregon approved the Death with Dignity Act, which allowed asst. suicide legal. The first year that it was available 23 Oregonians received the pills; only 15 people used the pill and died peacefully. This past year 33 people asked for it and only 26 actually used it. I think that the reason why the rate is going up because more and more (elder) people are moving to Oregon for this reason. People might say that it to hard on the family but most of the family members under-stand; a husband of a person that took pill was quoted "She was my only girl; I didn't want to loose her but she wanted to do this." The state of Maine is right now trying to legalize the pill and I believe that they will do so. People in every state have a right to decide when they want to die.
