Beauty has always been categorized under outer appearance. But true beauty isn’t all about physical traits a person has; true beauty lies within an individual. Men and women of all ages and races spend time, money, and try their hardest to bring out their outer beauty in order for them to impress others, but spend little or no time shaping their inner beauty; their true beauty. Beauty plays a big role in society, and has a huge impact in shaping peoples behavior. For example, Hawthorne’s piece ‘‘The Birthmark’’ talks about a scientist named Aylmer, who married a beautiful young woman named Georgiana. Georgiana had one small birthmark on her left cheek; she thought that her birthmark was a charm and an angelic gift given to her by a fairy when she was born, but other envious beholders disagreed. Jealous females as well as masculine observers affirmed that the birthmark destroyed her prefect complexion.
