It’s the longest river of both the People’s Republic of China and Asia. It’s also third longest river in the world. Can you guess what river this is? It’s the Yangtze River. There are deadly floods that overflow and destroy towns and cities. There is a project known as the Three Gorge Dams to help calm down the floodings and run electricity for towns nearby. It is going to be one of the world’s most expensive projects costing anywhere from twenty five to fifty billion dollars in U.S. Currency. The Yangtze River is enormous. It rises in the Tiberian highlands of western China and flows in a generally easterly direction across 12 Chinese provinces and its delta is on the East China Sea. Three quarters of the river’s course runs through beautiful scenic mountains and towns. It has the fourth largest volume in the world. During the period of monsoons, rains in the summer month create the Yangtze and its tributaries to be destructive floods and waves that can result in deadly floods.
