Compare and Contrast of "A Ros

Compare and Contrast of "A Rose for Emil" and "Eveline"

A woman's role in society and family has constantly changed through out the years. What was expected of a woman in the past has completely changed, compared to what is expected from her by today's standards. Stories from different time periods reflect this great difference, yet there will always be that general stereotype of a woman. Women's lives have been affected and afflicted by the expectations of a woman's role in society, and in the end the perception has caused a negative impact on their lives. She unlike Emily on the other hand formed a relationship with a young man from South America, named Frank. They two were in love. Frank was going to be her ticket out, her life raft to safety; he was going to rescue her from the dark and haunting waters of her father's world. Eveline knew this, and had agreed to leave with him one day. As Eveline stated, she was going to go to a place where "people would treat her with respect"(Pg 428, Ln 20), and when contemplating her future, hopes "to explore another life with Frank" (Pg 428, Ln 43).

These women and millions more are affected everyday by the roles in which they are forced to lead. For the majority of women, these roles are changing daily. For the ones, which have been left behind, th
