When The United States Military Academy was founded in 1802, no one could imagine the impact it would have on this nation for centuries to come. I believe that West Point cannot teach one to become a leader; it must be already embedded in the person. What West Point can accomplish is the framework for the development of leaders of character. I believe that a have what it takes to be a leader and will devote myself to my duties of being an officer. Inherently, there will be risks involved, even my life. However, these are risks that I must be able to take as a future commissioned officer in the United States Army.

Duty is a guiding principle to commissioned officers. Professional officers always do their duty, and they are "prepared, if necessary, to lay down their own lives and the lives of their soldiers in the Nation's interest." Being an officer is the most respectful profession there is; it is worth more than the richest billionaires. The essence of life is a gift, and laying it down for the protection
