Reading? What is that? The average reader doesn't learn anything from what he has read except enough to pass a test or write a paper on. People are not learning to comprehend what they are reading, and even if they do, they don't bother to enjoy it. High school students especially have this problem. You end up getting assigned to read a book and the test is in two weeks. Instead of reading, you end up watching the movie the night before the test, usually at one o'clock in the morning while your eyelids slowly shut and your brain begins to shut down. When you take the test the next day, you see that the knife that was used in the movie wasn't found in the cellar after all, but in the safe in the wall. If you do read the book and don't watch the movie, you lie on your bed and try to read. That is the worst thing that you could do. You try to read it but the Sandman sprinkles dust over your face and you begin to ignore pages of the book and concentrate on your nice, comfortable pillow. When a person skims a book they think that they are learning enough to pass a test or write a paper. This statement will cause many students' downfall. The purpose of skimming a book is simple... there isn't one. From personal experience, I can tell you that skimming a book will never lead to prosperity. While reading a book, I tried to read each page as fast as I possibly could because one of my friends told me that I would understand the story better. They were completely wrong. When I had finished doing this, I didn't have a clue as to what I had just read. Which leads me to another point in not trusting your friends about reading. They may think they might know a thing or two about the subject when in fact they know the opposite... nothing.
